Destin received it's name from Captain Leonard Destin who was a very knowledgeable and successful commercial fisherman of the mid-1800s. At that time and until the early 1900s this was only a small fishing village and became known as Destin by Caption Billy Marler in honor of the Captain and his family in the late 1800s.
