This waterfront community is located on the Hwy 98 about 45 miles east of Pensacola, Florida on the Gulf of Mexico and was incorporated as a city in 1984. Destin is in the heart of the Emerald Coast, NW Florida.

Destin received it's name from Captain Leonard Destin who was a very knowledgeable and successful commercial fisherman of the mid-1800s. At that time and until the early 1900s this was only a small fishing village and became known as Destin by Caption Billy Marler in honor of the Captain and his family in the late 1800s.
