Destin Gulf Front Property Owners and the Beach Project
Some gulf front property owners are vowing to continue their legal fight against a beach project. Court rulings allowed the renourishment project between Walton County and Destin to start two weeks ago. But, the group called "Save our Beaches" asked for a ruling, that would keep the project away from their shores. The group feels the construction will harm their property. But, the city contends that renourishment is vital to protect Florida's beaches. Kenneth Plant: Because beach erosion is a serious menace to the economy and general welfare of the people of the state and has advanced to emergency proportions, it is hear by decla that the necessary governmental responsibility to proper manage and protect Florida's beaches. To issue the temporary injunction, the judge told property owners they must prove the project would harm their property and be in the public interest. .
After hours of testimony last night, the judge ruled the group failed to do so. | |
