SRIA is exploring a Pensacola Beach parking-garage options.
Currently Santa Rosa Island Authority does not have funds set aside to construct a parking garage on Pensacola Beach, but is hopeful in determining soon what the project would include.
Some Pensacola Beach Island Authority board members and beach residents are in agreement that more parking is needed for tourist and visitors. It has not yet been determined as to where a parking facility might be built or as to how it will be paid.
Sira's committee meeting on June 27, the General Manager Buck Lee said his staff will define the scope of work of this project for the board to consider. At that time they can consider whether to request bids for a garage structure.
SIRA is considering building a 480-car garage on the beach, providing free parking. It is assumed to cost approximately $8 million.
SRIA chairman said "Right now, money is the issue" If funding wasn't an issue... the debate would then be where to build it."
Baskerville-Donovan has proposed a four-level garage in the area of the Quietwater Boardwalk, Pensacola Beach Boulevard and Via de Luna Drive.
the final plans will likely incorporate retail spaces for private Pensacola Beach businesses on the ground floor to help provide income.
