Gulf Shores Alabama Real Estate
Gulf Shores borders Orange Beach on the east and the Gulf Islands National Seashore on the west, as well as the Gulf Coast to the south. The "not so little" Little Lagoon splits the peninsula down the middle, leaving a narrow strip of land that actually borders the coast. The most desired part of this is called "West Beach", which features beach homes with prices in the millions. This section features the Laguna Key subdivision, which has its own community pier, tennis courts, basketball courts, and a community pool. Vacation condos abound all along the Gulf Coast side of the city, providing rental income for owners.
Like its eastern neighbor, Orange Beach, Gulf Shores is surrounded by water bodies of all types. In addition to the beach and Little Lagoon, it is bordered to the west by Bon Secour Bay, which meanders inland to become Oyster Bay in the city of the same name. This small bay also narrows to travel the length of Gulf Shores by way of Portage Creek.
All these different waters create waterfront communities and home opportunities everywhere in the city. That being said, the city also stretches far inland to the north of Portage Creek, offering less expensive real estate which still has direct access to the entire city and beach along Highway 59, also known as Gulf Shores Parkway. The Gulf Shores Golf Course is located here with the Craft Farms Cypress Bend Course and the Cotton Creek Course, both designed by Arnold Palmer. There are nine signature golf clubs in Gulf Shores and a state-owned 18-hole course. Another popular golf course is located in Gulf State Park, the Refuge.
The Kiva Dunes Golf Club, Beach Club community, and Gulf Shores Plantation are just outside the city, on the tip of the most western point of the Gulf Coast strip. This is home to the gated community of The Peninsula - with 24-hour security, 27 holes of golf with a pro shop and teaching pro, eight lighted tennis courts with a pro shop and teaching pro, fitness centers, indoor and outdoor pools, restaurant, lounge, and a mile long stretch of private beach with pier on Bon Secour Bay.
Attractions in Gulf Shores include ocean fishing, dinner, and dolphin-sighting cruises, as well as a water park, Waterville USA. It is also home to the Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo, which has been featured on the television show "The Little Zoo that Could", on Animal Planet.
Gulf Place, the city’s most iconic stretch of beachfront and main public beach area with a $15 million Revitalization Project was opened in 2018. It features a public boardwalk, walking paths, green space, and beach dune restoration to provide wildlife habitat and protection from storm surges.
The Gulf Shores historic district is being renovated on both sides of the Intracoastal Waterway, called Waterway Village. This will transform the streets into pedestrian-friendly lanes with tree-lined streets and sidewalks, and decorative lampposts. Benches and seating areas all along the strip will provide a pleasant place to dine and shop.
